Hi iam about to start building a new pc i have most of the bits but i wonder if you could help I am looking at the Intel Coreâ„¢2 E6700, 2.67 GHz E6700 (BX80557E6700) Retail Processor what memory would i need ? and a decent motherboard Thanks for your help

id save 50 quid and buy the E6600 it will clock beyond the 6700 with a fair air cooler. Spend the extra on a better mobo

I did have it a while back its held its value quite well. There are hordes of good high spec boards though. I like the 975x chipset on the grounds it just works with quad and should hopefully work with the Penryns as it does have some good voltage options(although im not sure about the fsb)


my E6600 clocks to 2.86 gig on 1.4 volts before the fan kicks in to higher speed (to loud for general use) and will run quite happily at 3 gig+ with these settings and true core temps are constantly around 65 degrees (true core temps not normal ones quoted which isnt a core sensor really) new Noctua HSF coming tomorrow so I push it more then

My friend has a quad system very very nice but he designs Web sites and makes a lot of money doing it Looked at the quad chips not cheap

350 quid for the Q6600 which is good value if you want it but with the Penryns coming and a good 6 to 8 months before there on the market and been there long enough to drop in price. (if you buy new you pay design premium for them true of everything really)

If you wait you can get it cheaper thanks for the tips .The wife said you can spend what you like on the PC but you can only spend your overtime money she wishes she never said this now as i have been doing a lot of over time he he .Just read the thread about a 20 inch monitor but i might go for the 22 will have to get tape messure out
