Ringer tones

A year or so ago, various relatives had me looking for ringer tones on the Internet and I did find one or two sites where you could find free downloads. Not that I've looked much recently, but I get the impression that nowadays you have to pay for ringer tones. Am I right, or are there still free sites?

there are not really any free sites, however some phone companies (not Nokia obviously) give you free ringtones for your phones. Panasonic do and Siemens used to i dont know if they still do though.

Out of interest (and I suspect that I am showing appalling ignorance here ), why not Nokia?

Because they never give anything away for free and overcharge you for thier phones. But to be more sensible, they run Club Nokia don't they, which they charge users for

From the title, composer, do I take it that you have to supply the notes yourself and, more importantly, put them in the right order yourself?

Yes you do but if you google it you can get a lot of sites that tell you what keys to press \ use.

Tried it and IMHO a waste of time, pay the £1.50 or so and bite the bullet, worth it in the long run

www.cbfmobile.com is a good site for logo's and tones, its the only one i can find that i class as FREE. You donw load the polyphonic ringtones using their WAP site, and these are included in my 100 free minutes, which i never use completely, so basically its free. It might be different if you have no free minutes though

Some 3210 ones...
I've got some others that are in an HTML text file so you'd need to extract the data (Relate to TV & Cartoons) I'll post em if you want?

It depends what sort of phone, most phones with polyphonic ringtones you can just upload a midi file, that Samsung t100 however requires a "tool" to convert the midi file to a special format before uploading it. Midi files are available mostly for free alllll over the internet. If it's for a nokia phone, and you want ringtones for free, find nokia composer tunes and tap them in yourself.

no it tells you which numbers to press, you just go into compsoer on your mobile nad press the numbers that are written for the song on the site, for example it cud be "678990355" for the first aprt of the song! Its very easy it tells you what to do!

Have you checked this site out people ?

eh? Overcharge for their phones? Nope, that's set by the network operators who sell you the phones as part of a deal... You're right in that you never get anything for free, but isn't that obvious? Any phone that you upgrade to or purchase with contract (or even PAYG ) is heavily subsidised by charges built around the various tariffs, that's why they're so expensive to buy sim [commitment] free... And... Club Nokia is free, there's no charges unless you decide to use the services which just about every other service provider charges for, such as ringtones and graphics... :******:

guess who's a common Nokia fan then

Whats it like to be common? Your the ****** mate - Nokia are always late on the market with new technologies, yet always charge more for phones with less features then others. Take the fact the 3210 was about £130 a few years ago yet you could go an buy better Siemens phones with WAP and a coulor screen for just £120 - yes, Nokia's are splendid value

Hahaha... I find it hard that you make such a comparison based on the costs "a few years ago"!! Just to keep things clarified so that everyone understands yeah?

Like I say, the prices will vary between different network providers and will also depend upon the tariff you are contracted to, I've always had a fair deal on the latest Nokia phones and have certainly not paid any more than their lesser counterparts charge. Maybe you're just not getting a good enough deal on your PAYG phone? Maybe they do lack a couple of features on some models, but I'd rather they got it right rather than offer me something that clearly doesn't function as it should - which is often the downfall for others.
