Storm Éowyn
Well with the storm hitting the UK tomorrow many parts of NI and Central/South Western Scotland now having red alerts issued for tomorrow and the emergency broadcast alert system being used and most stores and services(schools, councils, supermarkets, public transport) now closed tomorrow it really looks like a day in the house is the best thing with gusts up to 100mph creating a danger to life.

Re: Storm Éowyn
I knew a couple of people who jumped out of their skins when the alert went off on their phones this evening . I can confirm if you’re using Apple CarPlay it takes over your dashboard multimedia screen and wails out of your speakers. Missus got quite a shock while on an unlit country road in nowheresville.
Here in civilisation I did the Friday afternoon shop this afternoon and middle child is delighted that visiting boyfriend can’t get back to London for another 24 hours. So someone’s happy anyway.

Will be going out cycling at some point if its too bad I will go off road . Last storm was nearly blown into traffic. Headwinds make life really hard but its all extra calories burnt and added risk excitement I guess

I was in Tesco and hearing it all over the store hundreds of times was very weird with everyone looking to see what it was. I'd already seen it was going to be used so wasn't shocked when it did happen.
Our bin collection is off tomorrow and the Tesco stores here will not be opened for staff safety. Step-daughter still has to get in to work though as work(sdue to public transport being stop from 8am) in a Doctor Surgery in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Re: Storm Éowyn
They don't issue red alerts for little storms dude. Gusts up to 100mph expected in places ,70-80mph expected in most red areas. Serious risk to life.

Youngest was having an after-school teenage nap and woke up thinking someone had announced The Purge
To me the overall effect, if not the actual sound, is a bit too reminiscent of Attack Warning Red in Threads ….

The eye is forecast to drop to around 935mB before it starts to fill again, which is as deep as a cat 4 hurricane. So yes, it’s going to be very bad. Thankfully it isn’t a hurricane, the physics are different thanks to our latitude, and the winds won’t reach persistently hurricane force speeds, and the storm will weaken as soon as it gets close to land. But as we don’t have a hurricane season here, we don’t have the infrastructure to cope with hurricane force storms. So things are going to get a bit hairy over the next 18 hours.

If your area is affected I wouldn't go cycling if I were you, your safety is more important.

Re: Storm Éowyn
Amber already in effect in Glasgow and it's wild already. Red alert starts at 10am.
Already seen a few bins and all the rubbish flying around as some idiots still put there bins outside.

Re: Storm Éowyn
So mostly for anyone below Glasgow, it will just be a little breezy then.
I hope all those up north are safe and hopefully the storm passes quickly.

Re: Storm Éowyn
I mean there is also an Amber wind warning extending down to just above Manchester then a yellow for below that.
Absolutely wild in Glasgow just now.

Re: Storm Éowyn
It's passed over here. Not nasty at all, but you couldn't read a newspaper out there. No sign of daleks either, and they appear en-masse during high winds.

Re: Storm Éowyn
Is there an alert today? Apparently I didn't get one yesterday, if there was one.

Your phone will only wail if you’re in the red alert zone, which in this case is Northern Ireland, southwest and central Scotland. Those who got the alert did so at teatime yesterday.
It’s vicious here at the moment. My wheelie bins are only staying put because I’ve lashed them down. Opposite, their recycling bin has been blown up their side path and onto the driveway where it’s now spilling plastic everywhere. In town, a full-size double headed street lamp has just come crashing down on the middle of a busy crossroads.

Re: Storm Éowyn
A few of our neighbours ignored the do not put your bins out and now gardens are filled with rubbish as they blew around. My garden fence is blowing around and my neighbour trampoline is really not secure. To get worse in next couple of hours as the winds sweep round to be more westerly.
