Crash victims undiscovered for days
A dead man and critically injured woman have been found in a vehicle which had crashed and left the road not far from junction 9 of the M9 in Scotland.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...ntral-33438667
It appears the damaged vehicle was reported bon Sunday morning but not followed up by the police at the time so the occupants were probably lying injured inside for several days before being discovered.
God only knows how much they may have suffered in that time.

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
This is very sad and even worse if the driver was alive for some time after the accident. Seems stange that the police followed up the missing persons\vehicle report without linking it to the accident report even though the car model was the same.

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
I found this story very sad and shocking, why did the police fail to respond to the road crash when it was reported I just don't understand that.
My heart goes out to the families and I wish Ms Lamara Bell a speedy recovery.
RIP John Yuill.

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
But was it a crash that was reported or just that a car was off the road? Why didn't the person who reported the car, investigate further to see if everyone was ok. If they thought no help was needed, why should the police?

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
Police Scotland has since admitted it received a call about the crash, but for some reason it was not followed up

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
So sad about the young man having died, I hope the woman passenger recovers physically though how she will get over the trauma is another matter.
I also hope the reason this incident wasn't investigated at the time can be established and procedures put into place to stop this happening again.

Re: Crash victims undiscovered for days
Typical. With all the cut backs in the police they are gonna blame this.
Sad someone has died tho.

Policing is devolved to Scotland. Can't blame the cuts in England and Wales for this one.

As I read it, the car was reported as "being off the road" as opposed just involved in an accident (which may not have involved any other vehicle). Even so, you'd have thought someone with a uniform might have gone and taken a peek...

A car can be "off the road" for all sorts of reasons, many of them with no problem. Unless the caller indicated something, why should the police investigate? Is it such an isolated road that nobody else passed by in that time?

Yes of course they can and that might be the exact reason for what happened. On the other hand, the initial report may have included that the vehicle was clearly damaged or there was wreckage nearby. We don't know yet and that's why I haven't blamed the police, merely pointed out that they didn't respond.

The Police can't (and don't) respond to every call made. Either the initial call made it seem the crash was minor, the call handler graded the call wrong or the cop assigned to the call ignored it.
The Police have been pretty vague with the details so far so I'd imagine the call should have been assigned and dealt with at the time.

You can blame the crappy implementation of a national force though.

It's a major road but from what I understand the car was not visible from the roadway.

If the fault is with a cop or civilian member of Police staff they are gone without question. If the initial call was vague enough not to justify a response then it's a bit more suspect.
I quite like my job so won't be going looking at the call logs so I'll be waiting like everyone else for the enquiry to finish but it's a tragic situation.

Spoke to my brother in law about this last night and he basically said the same as your post. He was a policeman for over 30 years.
