Bolt vs Blot

Virgin Media set to unveil new campaign featuring Usain Bolt and Sir Richard Branson
Virgin Media is set to unveil a new campaign on Monday 1 July, featuring Usain Bolt representing Virgin Media’s superfast fibre optic broadband, going head-to-head with Blot, a slow and inefficient challenger representing regular broadband powered by DSL technology.

Wonder if this will get banned by the advertising standards like many of their other ads

Re: Bolt vs Blot
So basically VM are inferring that their cable services are the dog's danglies and xDSL services, which include their own National service, are rubbish.
Criticising a technology used to provide one your own services is a strange tactic indeed.
I note no distinction is made between ADSL and VDSL services.
So I take it VM are inferring that their cable service is superior to BTO's VDSL service when it just plainly isn't.
It seems to me the claims VM make here are just as economical of the truth as their "unlmited" claims.

If you look at the image in that article it just says 'regular broadband'
---------- Post added at 16:33 ---------- Previous post was at 16:30 ----------
And the linked site itself at www.virginmedia.com/challenge says:

"Regular Broadband" (ADSL2+ over 10Mb, excludes fibre products) 24hr average speed of 6.9Mb.

I love this part from the link

So why continue with traffic management then something that actually slows your speed

BT and Sky both fail at educating customers as to this type of difference in their own adverts. They make small references but they need to actually come out and say "VM slow down your connection on purpose to this %, while we don't". Customers will continue to be mislead otherwise and that means more customers for VM.

Just pointing out to people that some people have it in for Virgin Media no matter what they do and l am afraid you are one of the top contenders for that but alas many people know that any way.

Have seen both ads and they are very good, doubt there will be any issue with them.

If consumers take it to mean that regular broadband means other providers broadband then it is. One would assume that VM is comparing its own broadband package vs a competitors competing product, which it isn't. Its like comparing apples and oranges.
Hey look there, its a wookie! It does not make sense.

Agree, there is no reference to any other provider, the ads are simply stating what is already known through Sam Knows data and that's why they will not have any issue with what they are saying.
On another note, take away the emotional element of the content, VM get nominated for a hell of a lot of awards for their cutting edge advertising, but that's for other forums where like minded people appreciate quality in particular segments ie marketing
