As has already been said above, the only way to
legitimately accomplish what you're trying to is to speak to Virgin Media and get them to arrange appropriate hardware/services as required.
If the box wasn't bought from VM by the original owner then it may not have been theirs to sell so it's unlikely that VM will be too interested in servicing it for free.
Finally, any discussion on how to 'unlock'/'reset' that box to receive services to which (according to what you've said about the contract you're on) you are not entitled won't be allowed here as it would be against our Terms of Use.
The best advice anybody here can realistically give would be for you to contact Virgin Media.
