Do you turn your Sky Hub off at night?

Does anyone turn off their Sky hub / Sky router off at night either to save money / not have it on if no one is using it, etc?

I was told it needed to be on for the first two weeks to check the line is all OK but now can be switched off.

Thanks.

Halcyon.

Re: Do you turn your Sky Hub off at night?

The same question could apply to any ADSL hub.

I have a BT Homehub; I leave it switched on. There might be a few watts to be saved by turning it off at night, but I like to be able to check mail first thing in the morning without waiting for the hub to boot up first. Sometimes I browse the web a bit before going to bed, and if there are app updates for the iPad I always set those downloading just before I go to sleep.

"Always on" was one of the selling points of broadband when it first came out, after all.

I can see it is useful or that purpose.
It is just for quite a few hours it is not in use so I was thinking of putting it on a timer to boot up just before I wake up for example.

If you're thinking of one of those mains plugs timers you can use to control table lamps, yes you could do that, but the amount of leccy you would be saving might be worth a whole lot less than the timer ...

Nope, not a student, but I do like to turn off everything before I go to bed. Guess it is a habit of doing things that way. Plus I've always preferred not to have the wifi beaming out whilst I'm sleeping.

Only when a relative is staying as I sleep on the floor in the living room with the blue light from my Virgin hub shining shining into me. Apart from that, I use the overnight time to download things.
