ntl:250 event log - is this normal?

I keep getting these 'critical' alerts on my ntl:250:

"Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - ..."

Around 5-10 per day.... is this normal?

Re: ntl:250 event log - is this normal?

Cant say for sure that its normal. All I can say is that I get them as well.

Since 8:58 Tuesday morning, I have had 6 of those critical messages, plus 26 other critical messages.

Strange thing is, even though my modem is switched on 24/7, I didn't get 1 entry in the log yesterday.

Re: ntl:250 event log - is this normal?

From Cisco KB:

%UBR900-3-T3_TIMEOUT_II: R05.0 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging no Response received. T3 time-out.

Explanation: The cable modem is online and sent a periodic Ranging Request (RNG-REQ) message to the CMTS, without receiving a Ranging Response (RNG-RSP) from the CMTS within the T3 timeout period. The cable modem will send another RNG-REQ message, up to the maximum of 16 successive attempts. This error message is DOCSIS event message is R05.0, Ranging Request.

Recommended Action: No action is needed because it is normal for a cable system to occasionally lose MAC-layer messages, especially when multiple cable modems transmit RNG-REQ messages at the same time.

So it's probably nothing to worry about at this point
