Pace Receiver

Just bought a seconhand pace reciever to replace an old unit, it has a paired card. I have plugged it in attached the NTL cable, the unit is displaying TUNE and has been for 1/2 hour, has anyone any idea what I should do now
Thanks

Re: Pace Receiver

When the engineer came and installed my pace box I'm sure he had to phone ntl to get it to work.

I thought the cable box's were the property of ntl anyway?

I'm sure that someone much smarter than me will be along to correct me soon

Welcome to the site by the way

You need to ring ntl & tell them you have bought a set top box from someone who shouldn't have sold it to you , & as it wasn't theirs to sell in the 1st place it's stolen goods.

You then need to ask ntl to supply you a replacement STB, as all boxes are rented & therefore covered in the event of failure/breakdown.

to the site btw!

Pretty much......

You rent your STB from ntl, ring them & get them to sort out any issues that you have.

yep you have been had and as such are in reciept of stolen goods , 2 choices , either bin it and forget about it or if you have the address and name of the person who sold it to you get in touch with the police/ntl and lay the git in

Re: Pace Receiver

But of course, if the previous owner had advised NTL in writing that their box was available for collection and they had not done so within 14 days (or however long it is) then it became his property and he could legally sell it to any mug that was willing to pay for it.

Doesn't mean it would work though

Re: Pace Receiver

I thought the T&C's made it the customer's responsibility to return the box, not NTL's to collect it. In this case, any collection service offerred by NTL is a bonus rather than a right,

But what if the person is not an NTL customer, therefore not bound by their T&Cs? E.g. it was left in a property they moved into. Of course NTL could take action against the original customer but if they decline to collect it from the person now holding the STB it would seem resonable for them to assume they could do what they want with it.

No, it's not, it's stealing. The box belongs to no-one but ntl. You can't justify stealing, or selling/receiving stolen goods, end of.

I would imagine that if someone left a STB in a house that you bought and NTL failed to collect it after being advised by you that it was there then you would legally be entitled to dispose of it how you saw fit. You are under no legal obligation with NTL so T&C's don't apply to you.
