I edited my post accordingly as I missed that first time round. Would be very very suprised if it was purely the modem to blame here. 9 times out of 10 it's a PC issue, normally a corruption or damaged driver.
A reboot into safe mode (with networking) can sometimes help pinpoint the problem.
