Time to read both manuals to find out where you set the on off times for the thermostat, but I'm guessing if you are able to program the thermostat for the times you want the heating on or off and at what temperature throughout a 24hr period then you would leave the programmer on constant because your thermostat is taking the control, this is what was happening with my Hive and older Tado smart setup.
Alternatively it maybe the other way around, I agree it would confuse me too.

I'm now thinking you use the ST9100C timer to setup the times you want your heating on or off then the DT4 is used to control the temperature, I've no idea if the DT4 will allow you to press a button for a heating boost or whether you would do that on the ST9100C timer.
I guess you got what you asked for a thermostat that has a digital display but hopefully it gives you a little more control than a regular dial thermostat dumb system.
