This has been my bugbear with these calls centres, especially the Indian ones. They speak English but they don’t use it the way we do. As an example if you get through to an Indian call centre and you’ve told them why you’ve called, they always say “I will surely help you with that”.
Nobody in the UK says I will “surely” help you.
What they mean is “I will certainly help you”. In Indian languages the word for sure and certain is the same so they say this blissfully unaware of how wrong it sounds.
Now that’s just a basic example but if I’m speaking to my bank, dealing with MY money, I don’t care about “cultural differences”, I want to make sure I fully understand what they’re talking about and vice versa.
That’s why I now only use a bank that uses UK customer services only.
