We were great friends in no time, and we still are although I see them rarely. I helped them with all sorts of documentation and interviews (I helped him get the brick making job).
It was only when his Roma "friends and family" started turning up demanding his hospitality (alcohol and food) that things started to get a bit weary. Then it was a constant stream of Roma DEMANDING I find the "cheap flights" to and from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. That got old quick.
The last straw for the landlord was when his in-laws drank all his booze during one of the many all-nighters they pulled at his place, then took offence at something and threw him through a window..... and started to beat him with a glass-studded piece of window frame.
After they moved away, It was an almost weekly thing to get a car full of rough Roma turn up at our place DEMANDING cheap flights or help with documentation. I think my name was taken off their list after a few months.
Recently a group of the most scary Roma I have ever seen were very menacing DEMANDING his address when I was at a market. Security stepped-in luckily.
