I think another factor could be the general lack of coverage from Virgin in the UK.

Virgin only cover about 20% of Scotland and 20% of Wales. There's also noticeable gaps throughout England. If Virgin had complete UK coverage, offering their current TV deals and broadband speeds would there still be such a large majority choosing SKY?
