You can keep what you want as long as you pay the respective charges for doing so.
I'm not sure of the monthly price difference, if any, between an additional V+ box and an additional V HD box. I have a feeling that once you have the box, and you currently have both, the multiroom monthly fee is the same for any box. I have 2 additional TiVo's, as well as the base one, and I don't think the price changed when I upgraded from my previous 3 V+ boxes. If it did it was negligable.
Call VM and ask for their best price.
