We are not very good with this kind of thing we really need someone to walk us through on the passwords etc., and we dont know how to secure it either.
we had a friend who set it up for us but we no longer have any contact with them. one thing we dont understand it one of our relations comes with their laptop they cannot get in to our wireless they put the password in but has nver had any luck,
we had an old router and had the same performance with that not sure if the person set it up funny. if you go to our brother in laws we can log onto his router with our laptop without any problem.
just wish we could get in using admin and password but it wont allow us we have tried everything but to no avail. very fed up as we wanted to get onto the internet using the ds

I can understand why you would like to avoid changing the settings, but I don't see that you have much choice. You don't know what the router's password is. If the password was what you thought it was, then you would have been able to get your relation's laptop onto your network and you would have been able to get your Nintendo on it as well.
The only option you have is to do the reset routine as described by Masque. That's the only way you can get the router to accept
admin as the user name and
password as the password. Once you get it into that state you can choose a memorable, secure password and start getting all your machines to connect to it.
As Pabscars has said, if you get stuck with it, connect your laptop by ethernet cable directly to your modem and come back here for more help. Remember if you need to do that, you need to switch your modem and your laptop off, connect the cable, switch the modem on, wait until its lights are steady and then switch your laptop back on.
