I have had 50Meg now for just over a month (Install date: 13th March 2009) and I too have been experiencing what appears to be a capped download speeds.Slowest being around 2Mbps.
This morning it appears to manifest itself slightly different, not only has Giganews been affected, but my entire connection...
It is 5:43am, and have been downloading from Giganews (with SSL), was achieving 47Mbps (as per usual), and suddenly I noticed it drop violently down to 10Mbps... At this point I had downloaded around 1.4gb of data. So normally when this happens, I pause, wait ten minutes, resume and the speed goes back up... not this time.
I tried Speedtest.net, and my previous result (which was 49Mbps) was now stating 10Mbps.
im to on the SK exchange funny that aint it might be a connection .any way my connection seems to have picked up to about 10mb now from giga news
I also tried downloading the ISO from
ftp://debian.virginmedia.com/mirrors...md64-DVD-1.iso using Free Download Manager and that too doesn't want to transfer faster than 10Mbps on average.
I am pretty confident that nothing else is downloading in the background. Windows update is turned off, I don't ever touch Torrents (only Giganews), and from what I can tell by looking at the data lights on the modem and router, no traffic is being transferred when I pause my download.
Really kind of sucks. I am connected to the Seven Kings exchange (or so the Supervisor who came to upgrade my connection told me).
