Unless the STB is supplied direct to the subscriber by Virgin Media, it cannot be legally connected to the Virgin Media Network. This forum will not support any attempt to obtain cable services without paying for them. If your daughter is a subscriber, and the current STB is not behaving then she should complain of a fault to VM and require them to fix it. "Her Gran" should retain the Set Top Box, and if it is no longer required it should be collected by Virgin Media.
