Ignorant reporting

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “XL customers who have a top advertised speed of 20Mb actually received an average of only 7.6Mb - for which they pay £37 a month.

“Although 38.2 per cent for the XL package is still good in comparison to many ADSL providers, the big disparity between speeds advertised as ‘super-fast’ and the actual speed enjoyed can be seen across other high-speed broadband providers. For example, Sky’s 16Mb customers received only a disappointing 4.6Mb in October

Cable continued to lead ADSL in terms of speed reliability with customers enjoying an average of 52.1 per cent of their advertised speed compared to only 37.7 per cent for ADSL providers.

What he is ignorant to is the fact that cables 20Mb customers are completely different to Sky's 16Mb customers. the cable 20Mb is 20Mb and SKY's 16Mb is a speed that is the maximum they can supply to the very lucky ones, but you are more likely to be able to get around 512k to 12Mb due to it being a copper phone connection.

He has wrote that piece thinking that everyone should get 16Mb from SKY and 24Mb from Bethere and then using that ignorance to do the comparism between cable and adsl.

If he had his facts right he would see that the figures of only 52.1 percent of their advertised cable speed is actually very poor.
