Usually you have to prove to Virgin it's faulty and they will send an engineer out to replace it. It also isn't capable of providing a 10mbit connection and the best you can hope to get is around 7mbit. Another problem is that it doesn't support
QAM256 which Virgin are upgrading to area by area so this would cause you huge problems and it would have to be replaced.
So your best bet is if you've been having problems with your connection (slow speeds or disconnections) phone faults and tell them.
I believe you can also get a new modem if you're prepared to cough up £50 but i think this method is very unfair.
If you're one of the people that bought their own modem years ago, meaning you own it then i guess you can do what you want with it and phone Virgin saying it's stopped working so you chucked it in the bin, as that's what i did and i pointed out to them it was my modem to throw away.
