recomend a router
in about a week and a half I get 4 meg telewest internet installed, I have a home network which involves 2 switchs and many machines which normally share inetrnet thru are currently aDSL, when we get cable instead of running it through the firewall pc i have now I wish to use a stand alone router/firewall
I would how ever like a computer to be able to function like it is on the edge of the network theirfore need capabilities to ip forward. does anyone recomend a decent/compatible router/firewall for use on the telewest network? Thank you Snowy :dunce: |

Most manufacturers supply routers that would fit your requirements. By the sounds of it you want a normal router (maybe wireless), but if you want the first option I suggested above then it must have the option of specifying a DMZ (a machine that gets all the unmapped incoming ports sent to it - so that PC needs to have a firewall on it to stop it being hacked). Any router you buy (well, 99% of them) will provide you with all the features you require. I personally use a Linksys router (a WRT54GC), but have been hapy with previous D-Link and Zyxel routers over the years. |

Re: recomend a router
:erm: how about the recommended routers thread at the top of this forum?
Most decent routers will do port forwarding - but don't forget open ports on the internet expose you to risk! fwiw, I have the ubiquitous Linksys WRT54G. |
Re: recomend a router
