Netgear Connection Speed Is Different To Speedtest.
Hello can anyone help i have a netgear adsl router dg834gt router with talktalk broadband i have today removed the bell wire on the master socket which has increased my connection speed upto 7712kbps, from 6100kbps which is better, but seem to have a problem that when i do a speedtest i only seem to get a average of about 3.5meg why is this? i have put the lastest firmware on and rebooted the router aswell, can any1 help please?

Re: Netgear Connection Speed Is Different To Speedtest.
Could be a bottleneck somewhere along the route... Just because you're connected to the exchange/ISP at 7+Mb it doesn't mean that you can download from everywhere at that speed as the fastest speed to a point is only as slow as the slowest point...
Try a few different speed tests sites and only if you're still restricted to 3.5Mb should you start looking at the router |
Re: Netgear Connection Speed Is Different To Speedtest.
Are you running the speedtest from a wireless connection (maybe a 'B' or'G' card)? If so try it when physically connected to see if there is any difference.

yes running the speedtest from a wireless its the same from a ethernet connection to but i think i have found the problem which might be that i rebooted the router about 5 times, which has lowered my ip profile and it needs to update did test at... http://test.speedtester.bt.com
got a connection speed of 7486kbps, then a lower rate of 3500kbps then acutal of 2850kbps think the ip profile needs to catch up again!? |

Some info here about IP profiles and timescales, etc.
I'm thankful I'm on cable now!! Waaayyyy too complicated for me........ |
