Router Problem

Im using a Netgear WNR834B router with my Virgin media broadband, but with the router I cant search with 'GOOGLE' and cant go on MSN MESSENGER and Xbox Live.

I've checked this modem (without router) on a different computer and it works fine, so it can't be a problem with the VM modem.

Whats wrong here???

Re: Router Problem

Are you rebooting (powering off) the modem, before you connect it to the modem?

Re: Router Problem

The modem will not "see" the router, unless you reboot the modem when you change the device connected to the modem, i.e swap from computer <> modem, to computer <> router <> modem.

If you have been playing with the roter settings, do a factory reset, so you are back to square one.

If the computer is getting a connection to the router, you will be able to browse (internet explorer) to the router's admin pages. Are your browser's settings for connections all set to auto?

Re: Router Problem

Do you have any firewall running on the PC or router. Are the necessary ports open and permissions applied?

If the numeric link to google works ok but typing www.google.com doesn't work.. then it's very likely a DNS issue.
Open the properties for your network connection on the pc. In the TCP/IP properties try setting the DNS server addresses manually to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

These are Level3 dns servers and should be 100% reliable.

Re: Router Problem

have you done a virus scan? I googled it ironically and came across some forums where people also had that problem and were being advised to do virus and spyware scans. Hope this helps
