Help to get cabled up!

hello All, hope you dont mind this rather long question but i really could do with some advice!

Just moved into a house in Tring and wanted to get NTL to provide broadband, tv, and phone, we have cable installed in our street and outside each house there is a small cover which says tele central, we thought that all we would need to do would be to contact NTL to get this connected to the house and have all that we want, however this has been impossible! we have phoned both NTL and telewest and both say that either we are not in their area, or that we do not have cable in this area, but we know that we do have!

This is only a small street and none of our neibhours have cable but we was told that someone two doors down was on broadband through cable! unfortunately they have moved and therefore i can not find out who they was with.

We even get flyers addressed to this house from NTL offering all in one packages!!

Its all really frustrating, so if anybody could give us some clues on who to try we would very much appreciate it.

Many Thanks
Mick

Check your post code here http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/homeif ntl are saying you are not in an ntl area sometimes they mean that your area is maxed out and there is no more room for you.
Hope this helps.
:welcome: to the site btw

Sometimes NTL/TW only partially cable a street because of physical limitations to do with road layout etc, have any houses been turned into flats, etc these things can all be factors affecting it. BTW the highlighted "WAS"s should be Were ;)

Hi Mick,

:welcome: to CF.

I had this problem when I moved to my new flat. It took me ages to convince the sales guy that all of the phone points in the flat had NTL stamped on them, all of the broadband/tv connection boxes had NTL stamped on them, and that there was a green NTL service box outside my bedroom wall.

It would appear that TeleCentral is an old name for NTL (started as Telecentral, then became ComTel, now they're NTL).

It might be worth another call to their sales department, alternatively if you hang around long enough you may find that someone here can confirm/deny whether there is service available to your area.

There are a couple of NTL bod's that frequent the forum, one of them may be able to help you a bit more.

In the mean time make yourself comfortable, sit back, kick off your shoes, relax, and enjoy your stay :)

There is only 6 houses in this street and the cable runs along the outside of all houses, no flats.

Cheers

Re: Help to get cabled up!

I may be wrong but NTL only do dial up through the phone line.

I have through my NTL cable 3 STB (Set Top Boxes) & 1 SACM (Stand Alone Cable Modem) 3 Meg, and have no major problems.

NTL have an arm called NTL Freedom ( :erm: ), they are able to offer BB services through a BT phone line.

Maybe i should just confirm that outside each house there is a small cover that says "tele central" and outside the house next door they have a large man hole cover that says " Cable TV" so im guessing its out there :D

Cheers

If next door has BB see if you can split costs on a wireless network :D
