Leaving ntl

Well folks I will be like a bat out of hthell as I am leaving ntl as a company - to pastures new

I have been with them for 7 years and have been though many many changes of procedures, process - ways of doing things - had some v good team leaders and some bad team leaders - raised ideas to the company to save it money and never had a word of thanks - I have dont things for the company ie cimpiled an internal phone book and spreadsheet of usefull info and this was taken and superceded into a company wide database - not a word of thanks or appreciateion

Been told on the phone what to do with a set top box, Been called all the swearwords under the sun on the phone - and still worked hard for the company - We are not phone monkeys but actauly do a multi skilled job - If you think that we do customer service, billing, faults, broadband, cable modem, even what is on sky sports 2 next tuesday - and you shold know the answser because that is what you are there for - It is not an easy job

Funnies

Csa

This seems to be a regular theme within NTL, there a lot of bright & motivated people working for the company but the management are still taking things for granted and it makes the staff think "why do I bother?".

Oh well they have lost another decent tech  If they don't give thanks then what do they expect :(

I will move this into "General NTL" ;)

I make an effort to be polite to CS reps, as I know that for the most part they're doing their best in a bad situation created through no fault of their own. The competence and ability of the guys at the top I seriously question, but I respect the CS guys for picking up the crap levelled at them through bad policy/practice/company structure.

Re: Leaving ntl

One thinks ntl should pay more attention to the staff it still has instead of letting them walk away.

It's discrasefull management practice. Training is a heavy burdon on most tecnology orientated companies, ntl dont want to be training new ones to boot.

Maybe its a new management stratergy - "Disposable Training" get em trained up push em away to AOL, Freeserve, etc... New slogan "NTL: training our competitiors staff!"

I wouldn't be ashamed to work as an ntl tech or possibly a CS rep but would be ashamed to be a team manager or human resources menager. Their employee turnover is excessive, how can one company loose so many people so quickly??

It's not only NTL who are like that, happens a lot, both my previous employer and my current.

In my current place, I worked with a collegue to build the new website.
Sometime after it was all done, the big chief man congratulated and gave all the credit to completely the wrong people, one of the people he mentioned only joined the company AFTER the site was done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, good luck with your new venture, hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the encouragement - It is not easy sitting on the phone day in day out - with different sets of processes for each area - and 6 screens and databases up and runnig to cater for all the quiries that you have to do - even the banarl and boring - even what is on sky sports 2 next tuesday and you are expected to know and if you dont you are accused of all sorts -

I have just heard and this is on another thread - that another 400 jobs are to go in the old Brighton call centre - faults - There have been other redundancies in Manchester also - subtlely and quietly job shedding 1 here and 2 there - not nice

I once had a team leader who had a vendetta against me - she tried each and every way to get rid of me - She was in cahoots with HR and they sided with her - She was investigated for paying off her account with a stolen credit card and using other peoples log in to do this - therefore implicating other people in her crime - She resigned before she was sacked - They then passed a mail round the department saying that she was a good team leader and she would be sorely missed

I read the mail and felt that I had been betrayed - I belive 30 peices of silver is the asking price - I felt very bitter towards the tl and also the company because they did not even come halfway to apologising for her behaviour towards me and the way I had been treated

Not good = When I raised it I was told in no uncertain terms to shut up and not say anything - That if I spoke I would be seen as a trouble maker

I could blow the lid in some ways

Re: Leaving ntl

Ok blowing the lid

There was a team leader who had long legs and a short skirt - you know the type - cross your legs on one of those chairs and half the men in the call centre have a heart attack - She draped herself over her male manager who was married with a family and she got herself promoted - as soon as she went into the other department the dress sense become very conservative with hemlines round the ankles - co-incidence or not - She was the worst performing team leader in the building

There was a CSA who slept with her manager to get promoted - she got the job

There was a Team leader who had bits in the right places - tight backside and large wotsits - There were rumours that she was having an affair with her male manager - your place or mine - She was embazzling the company by crediting her own account and the accounts of her families and friends - She was also using the log in and password of her team - as she had passed a mail round saying that it was a company requirement that the team leader knew the passwords of her team

She was discovered when the boyfriend of one of the team was good friends with a current team leader of 6 years experiece and one of the best team leaders in the company - The BF asked the team leader why the team member had been asked for her log in and password - The team leader smelled a rat - did his homework and discovered the secrect - not just the embazzlement but the rumoured affair

The team leaders manager asked the team leader to discipline a member of the team - his team and he advised not - that the best way was to put the person on a improvement plan - the manager also gave confidential and company information about the person to the team leader - The team leader rightly or wrongly told the team member what the information was and the maager suspended the team leader

The official line was that the team leader was on sick leave and then he resigned - The unofficial reason and possibly the truest reason was the team leader was dismissed

As in Yes Minister - the first rule of governemt - Dont belive anything untill its been offfically denied

Re: Leaving ntl

Fisti cuffs from a team leader to a colleague - Csas trying to get off with team leaders to get promotion - and sometimes getting it - There was one csa who crept for britian and she got promoted - Nothing between the ears - hollow between the ears but got promoted - I wonder why ?????

When it was CWC the customers in London it was discovered were using the free mins in the evening for internet use - CWC noticed this and announced that it had to cease and that if people wanted to use the internet in this was that there would be a 10.00 charge - WE WERE TOLD BY MANAGMENT TO TELL CUSTOMERS THAT IT WAS CLEARED BY OFTEL AND THAT ALL WAS OK - Then CWC had to back track - admit that notice had not been given and then write to all affected and give notice of change - The good people affected were very angry that they had not been told - and that notice had not been given

But We were told that all was ok Oftel had cleared it and they had not - We were told to lie to our customers and then had to backtrack and apologise that we lied

sounds to me that NTL emplyees are institutionalised.

"No-one cares about the workers"

"Its a hard job. Not everyone can do it."

"Fat Cats at the top"

"Its a thankless job"

"Us poor, poor workers"

Etc, etc.

Why do NTL workers think that the world owes them a living. They must be ex GEC employees.

2 posts and in both you have had a go at some member or other. Some do a good job for NTL some do a bad job it is the same in many companies. I wopuld like to say welcome to NTHW but I feel you have only come to stir up trouble. I hope you prove me wrong just a feeling I have after reading two posts.

Your aggressive style, Do you work for NTL in a management role?

Re: Leaving ntl

Lozzer, I suggest you go and look up the word TROLL on Google. You may find what you reads sounds very familiar

Here is an example: http://www.urban75.com/Mag/troll.html

I hope you have enough intelligence to change the words "usenet" to "forum" in the above article, then you will see yourself described.

Re: Leaving ntl

Good luck with the new job, whatever it is, it's got to be better than ntl. I have been working for them since 1992, well it was nynex then, then it changed to cable and wireless, then to ntl. I wonder who will take it over next. I do know that they are not the most honest company in the world, they even rip off their employees.
I had been a customer of ntl for 4yrs when recieved an email from some bird saying that she had been going through the records and found that I was not paying by DD, and that if I wanted to keep the 50% discount I would have to give her my bank details. I politely replied that I did not feel comfortable with ntl having free reign with my bank account and declined the offer. "Well" she says, "we will have to charge you full price then". I told her I would rather cancel my subscription, than pay double for a service that I considered a load of old rubbish. Well we will have to charge you full price for the last month then, she said. Why? says I, after all am I not still an employee, I have not left the company. Company policy she said. I ain't paying it I said, I don't care what it is. A couple of weeks later I recieved a bill for £90, for services that never cost more than £20. I rang the bird up and told her in no uncertain terms that I would not be paying the 90 quid and to poke it where the sun doesn't shine. I also tried to send an e-mail Aisid Hussian but had the mail returned to me as it couldn't be delivered. Bloke problably doesn't even exist. Bottom line is, the robbing s.o.b's took £106.86 out of my wages to pay for the bill.
So they bent me over and shafted me in the end anyway.
I felt like handing in my notice but I have nearly 12 yrs service under my belt now, and if they want me to go they will have to pay me to go. I made that mistake when I left BT in 1988, 4yrs short of release '92 and a small fortune.
Chin up everyone, it could be worse. But not much.

Perhaps you can learn how to spell next time you reply.

I've no axe to grind at all. This forum just seems to be littered with NTL employees moaning about their lot.

Rather than spouting the "nobody loves me " garbage, sort your work out at work. Leave the forum to customers to improve their experiences with NTL's services.

I for one am a very happy customer of NTL with nothing but praise for the quality of the TV service, broadband, customer service, etc.

My box has been faulty and I have had to wait 20 minutes for the phone to be answered. But heck, in todays world, this is reasonable (Try working for Time Computers like my brother). I'm not being charged 50p/min! And the problems I have experienced have been resolved efficiently.

Sure, NTL have problems. Cash flow, cut throat business and so on. They have to be pretty ruthless to survive.

Look around. Its been happening in lots of industries for decades. Weavers, Miners, Steel Workers, Engineering, Call Centres.

Its called competition and unless you all pull in the same direction, you will take NTL down.

IMHO.

Lozzer,

Rule #1, don't fan the flames even more by the comment in the first line of your last reply. You are just adding to your reputation as a troll.

For one, don't go attacking people in your first ever post, learn some manners first.

People will form an opinion of you within a few posts and it is not wise to have the reputation as a troll, no one will take any notice even if you make valid points.

"No-one cares about the workers"

## The union cares to some degree but cannot rock the boat too much - Those who tend to tell it as it is tend to have their head kncoked off - I mentioned to a colleague that in my opinion that male team leaders were better than female - In one aspect it may have seemed sexist but in the remit of my experience of ntl what I said was true to some aspect - but it is a case of see no evil, speak no evil say no evil - the three brass monkeys - People see only what they want to see and ignore what is obvious ##

"Its a hard job. Not everyone can do it."

It is a hard in some respect - How would you like to be on a phone being told what to do with the set top box and having personal abuse thrown at you - Not just I have got this B****y bill but the use of the 3rd 5th and 2nd letter of the alphabet in the you context - and have 200 to 300 calls in the q - and not respond to such abuse - It is a stressfull job at times

"Fat Cats at the top"

## To some extent I would agree - You rarely if ever get the CED or a senior manager on the phone taking calls on the shop floor - that would be unheard of - ##

"Its a thankless job"

## It is a thankless job in some ways but we do it - I have

1 Compiled an internal telephone directory and spreadsheet of information and product info for use -

2 Advised ways of saving money in wasted credits to customers - Many csas just jand money to a customer instead of dealing with the actual problem - they have their stats in mind and it is easier to just hand over credits to get an irate customer off the phone than to solve the issue - I raised this to management

3 At one point we were using discount codes to discount package info - ie access 14.99 each gene pack 4.00 sports and movies 23.99 minus 13.99 disc as access 5 packs movies and sports comes to over 57.00 and 13.99 disc comes back to 43.99 as was the price them - You can see that if you go from the top pacl to the bottom pack and you dont take out the discount code - the bill is incorrect - ie access 14.99 discount code d0035 disc 13.99 equals access 1.00 - 99 percent of customers are not going to tell us that we have made a mistake and you can see from the company viewpoint how money is lost - We lost some 4.700.000 and I raised this to management

###################################
I did not get a word of thanks
I showed initiative and care
Not a word of thanks and you know - someone else would have got the credit -
##################################

If I worked for your company and I plugged a hole where we lost money wouldnt you be pleased and raise your thanks in some way

I tell you their ingratitude hurt

"Us poor, poor workers"

No Not us poor workers - You expect that when you have a company that shouts from the walls as Cable and Wirless did - that they like innovation and ideas and knowlege sharing and progress - all the good things - that when you put ideas to them they just brush you off

Etc, etc.

Why do NTL workers think that the world owes them a living. They must be ex GEC employees.

We dont think that way - we just want gratitude for work done and done over and above the line of duty

Loz

Lozzer the customers do care about the NTL staff we have a good working relationship here with them. If we have a beef over the service its with the Bosses not the workers who are used, abused and manipulated to follow the company line.

Lozzer you arrived here and have done nothing to help your reputation. !st post you attack Frank and second post eas having a go in this thread. Lets have a rethink and I hope you do attempt to join in with this community with some respect for the members that are already here.
