LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
Hi guys, just a general question which is probably really simple but im no good at networking and the like!
I set up my router and everything works like a charm but there is one problem..when i switch on my computer and power up the router for the first time in the morning the internet is not automatically connected and so i have to go to the router settings page, fiddle about a bit and change the config from automatic DCHP to a different setting then back and then everything works fine?? Can somebody please help me with this as its a bit tedious, and I've tried on other forums but no one seems to reply!! Thanks and hope to receive a reply soon! |

Sounds like it's not picking up an IP address from the router. Have you tried a firmware update for the router?

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS and Virgin Broadband, help needed!
Write down all the settings you have, SSID, security keys etc and retore the factory defaults of the router. Then put them back in.

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS and Virgin Broadband, help needed!
Yeh, right click your printer and 'share' it. Now add a printer from the laptop and search the network for the printer, job done. You will need the pc switched on for it to print. Make sure the workgroups are the same for the PC's too.

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS and Virgin Broadband, help needed!
If the printer is to connected your desktop and you want to share the printer then, you need to find the printer on the network from your laptop to install it.
On your laptop run the printer setup wizard for a network printer.Because your laptop is wireless should`nt be any different after you're connected to the router. The method to setup a printer on your laptop is exactly the same as the process to setup the printer on the desktop. Of course thats Windows so i might have it wrong:dozey::) ---------- Post added at 12:05 ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 ---------- Quote:

why switch off modem at night? Being green? When switching back on leave it 30 seconds before switching router back on.

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
I have both Modem & router on same 4 way and as long as you power them 1st amd wait till lights are on modem before powering on PC you should be ok. I got the same problem when powering on PC 1st.
I have PC on suspend to Ram on a different socket and leave it on. |

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
Cheers guys :) Left my router on last night and it worked fine for me this morning!
Just still trying to work out how to share my printer! i don't have a clue why i cant :( |
Re: LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
what operating system, xp or vista. Ether way find the printer on the pc, right click, go into properties. Click on share ( something like that)
Then go on laptop, click add printer, then find printer on network. That is working from memory, so might be some small errors. |
Re: LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
I am running on Windows XP.
Every time i try to set this up it says on my laptop that the printer cannot be found on the network? Even though i have definitely set it up right on my desktop PC it still says this! Arrgghh!! :( |
