email & webmail problem

today at work we changed our leased line provider - now I can usually access my work email either from webmail or dowload it via outlook - to access via the internet I need to go to http://195.99.173.212:5108 and put in my username & password or just change my settings in outlook so my outgoing server is 195.99.173.212 & the same again for my incoming server - for some reason it's not letting me access either the webmail or send or receive emails any suggestions??

Think you need to ask the provider, never heard of them to be honest but it may just have been a glitch or set up issue.

no this is my work email but you should be able to log in via webmail from anywhere in the world & until yesterday I could download my messages in outlook just by putting the ip address in the pop3/smtp boxes in my email accounts - I checked with out IT guys last night and they could logon to webmail from outside work over the internet so there should be no reason I can't

Can you not see the page at all or is the login just not working?
What sort of error message do you receive in Outlook?

Re: email & webmail problem

if I try to access the webmail page from home - I get the usual page unavailable message if I try a send & receive I get an error message about logoning on to the server - the IT guys are coming back in today so will have another word with them - it's really odd as until we changed ISP I never had a problem

it's actually a browsing issue & an email issue that I have with VM - I have always used my home boradband to check my work webmail or download email via outlook but yesterday after we changed our Leased Line Provider although I imput the correct information I could no longer access the webmail or download email via VM at home from my work ip address & wondered if this was a problem anyone else had

Are you specifying a proxy at home? Can you ping the address concerned?

Trace from telehouse london to your VPOP3 server , I would suggest the problem is connectivity based.

also ;

[gavinl@ ]$ telnet 195.99.173.212 5108
Trying 195.99.173.212...

And finally nmap scanning fails as equipment unreachable

Hope this helps.

Re: email & webmail problem

Like I said in post 3, might be an idea to talk to your provider to see if there is an issue.

were you trying from a ntl line?

Re: email & webmail problem

I've investigated this further & one suggestion that has come up is that VM block port 5108 which is the port for webmail - does anyone have know where I can find this information out from

I take it your BB is provided by VM - I wonder if it's my IP address that the problem

Re: email & webmail problem

My BB is indeed VM.

Another daft question, and not a very safe one, have you tried disabling any local firewalls and trying it - I'm not suggesting you leave them that way.

it's something I'm looking into - I can access the webmail logon page if I use a proxy server - it's all rather bizzare using our old ISP & IP address I could access it & now we've change ISP & IP address I can't - at least it means I can tell people when then phone me out of hours that I'm very sorry but I can't check to see if that large email they were expecting has come in - which has cut down on my workload somewhat
