i never said bought, but "took over"

do you care to expand, im a bit lost still

Virgin Media did not buy anything nor took over anything. It did not exist until NTL took over Telewest.

Once the takeover of TW by NTL happened they then approached Virgin to use their name under the title Viirgin Media, part of the agreement was that Virgin group and indeed Richard Branson got some shares in the new company and it also allowed an injection of much needed cash.

Richard Branson sold a majority of his shares within 2 years but still retains some purely due to the deal allowing NTL to use the name Virgin Media.

If anyone can supply more info-feel free!

Virgin isn't installing my services until June 2nd for me, so I can't test it myself yet.

your connection has a very small amounts of jitter ~2ms, although there was a bit of a spike on the highlighted bold hop above, which is usual on VMs equipment anyway

Its worth mentioning it only takes one single ping to generate the yellow on the graph, the blue and green is more important. So if you did 100 pings and 99 were at 10ms and 1 at 100ms, the yellow would be high at 100ms. Given that tbb pinging is 24/7 its more likely to get any kind of fluctuations on latency.

With that said tho on the vmng3000 I have noticed that anomaly in that the tbb graph jumps up and down on the yellow but actual jitter doesnt change with it. Based on what I have read and what a few VM staff have told me the vmng300 has a smaller upload queue depth so gets more frequent slots causing lower jitter. In effect it has higher priority than other modems. On the varying max pings tho I have no plausible reason, just that it is something unique to the vmng300. The tbb graphs on every other VM modem I have used seemed accurate enough, eg. on the superhub I get a ping spike roughly every 4 to 5 pings on average.
