Re: The modem config page info

The connection can only go as fast as the service you are paying for. There are a few tweaks such as optimizing your MTU/RWIN, but really, these don't do much.

Are you not getting the full 2Mb out of your connection? Why the need to go faster?

If you really want to "tweak" your connection speed then you could try contacting either of these people
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/member.php?u=39
or
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/member.php?u=1586
and give them your I.P address and account info and I'm sure they could sort you out ;)
Seriously though tinkering with anything in the config pages can cause problems and if you screw up your connection you will have to pay to have it sorted out. Get caught "tampering" with your config file to increase your service speed and you stand to lose your connection and quite a chunk of cash.

Oh by the way...i did some of my own research on the tweaking, And here is some guys if its any help.

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
There are numerous things and patches here that i found improved my speed. Also i am using firefox 1.0.1 and made some tweaks to that which speeds it up.

Thos would be the MRU tweaks etc as mentioned earlier and the firefox connections tweaks are listed on this forum if you want to make sure you are fully software tweaked ;)

If you had a look at Robin Walkers site that I mentioned earlier in this thread you would have seen the Speedguide site and others mentioned on the Network Tweaks page.

assuming you are using xp then messing about with settings will produce no tangible results apparently , i read it somewhere , more likely you will bugger up your connection and have to reset stuff , i read that as well ;) :D :D :D

Re: The modem config page info

If you are using XP SP2 there are some tweaks here that might be useful- make sure you are comfortable with editing the registry though. SP2 limits the number of simultaneous TCP connections to 10 and this can cause problems if you use p2p software.

There is nothing that you can do to the modem to change performance- any firmware changes are done from the ntl side, but the modems can easily handle 2/3 meg.

If you are looking to tweak the connection then you need to look at your pc more than the modem. As others have mentioned:

- check for spyware/viruses
- disable p2p software when you are not using
- check MTU size
- use any browser tweaks (such as the firefox ones that you have)
- eliminate any firewall software
- if you are using a router, make sure that the MTU on the pc and router are matching (or the router is set to automatic)
