|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
Patience?!! Any saints out there?
No email again this morning. This is beyond a joke. And I have a sneaking suspicion that when it does come back up they'll have lost mails again. |
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
the mail server is responding which is a start
but the mail storage servers are down by the looks of it.... Quote:

Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
How to get your email.
1. get an alternative account (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc) 2. Go to http://selfcare.ntlworld.com/cgi-bin/frontend 3. repeat trying (2) until the page is briefly available 4. Set up forwarding details so that your emails are directed to youir new account 5. Tell everyone that you're no longer using ntlworld email because the company is useless It's worked for me :) |

Ok can anyone tell me where we stand on this, Email has actively been not working for a while now, its not as if its been temporary. This is appologing.
At this minute in time I really feel like ringing up ntl and telling them I no longer want there service. Its like having a credit card without the pin number. I am seriously get disassumed by the service of ntl now |

I still use NTL for broadband because so far it's been very reliable and it's cheaper than other available options for me. I also use them for cable TV but am reviewing this as the service has been down for two 12 hour periods this year so far. For everything else - ie email and web space - I have ditched them in favour of something decent.

NTL don't have a clue about how much people now depend on email (it aint no peripheral benefit). For example, I ordered some stuff off the net but haven't received despatch confirmation or a tracking number because my (and evryone elses) email has gone t!ts up. So I can't work out when I need to be here to receive it. God know what else is stuck (or worse, lost) in the system. |

|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
Grrrrrrr! Still no emails! Getting Send/receive complete but no emails (including ones that have turned up on the Hotmail account today and which should also have been delivered to my ntl address). Not bleedin' happy.
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
email is up and working at 14:35
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
It sounds like it's an internal routing issue within ntl. The incoming mail gateway is obviously still processing mail, if the forwarding is working. The POP server(s) is/are still working because webmail etc. can access the mailboxes, although no emails have arrived in them since yesterday. So I guess the issue is in the area between the main mail gateway and the server(s) with the mailboxes on. The smtp gateway (outgoing mail) seems to be OK as well.
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
No email service for approximately 24 hours. Although slow it's just started up again and "No new messages" Does that mean I've lost anything that was delivered in the last 24 hours?
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
Not quite - only 1 of the 7 test messages I sent myself this morning has arrived. And webmail times out trying to display any emails in HTML format.
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
On the plus side, I haven't been receiving the 200-300 spam e-mails a day that I normally receive :)
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
mail servers down again, my home mail server is never down lol ;), I think ntl need to be honest and let us know what the problem really is. They are obviously have mass problems.
Also "patching" its not going to help because ntl are going to receive a mass of mail ariving to the servers which probably are taking them down to. |
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
There must be an enormous backlog of email in the system, wonder how long it will take to clear?
Or maybe they'll just dump the lot in the bit-bucket! |

Still no inbound emails here and I am one unhappy chappy  |
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
I have my main e-mail account set to forward a copy to another.
At present I have not had any new e-mails in my main account - but sending to it is instantly forwarding. I also have a pobox account pointing at two other ntl accounts. Sending to the pobox is (almost) instantly sohwing up in one ntl account - but the other has been silent all day - and still is. |
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
they must have one hell of a problem .its been going on for a few days now .
I wonder how many people will leave ntl after this bout of downtime .. |

I have 2 accounts, my older but normal account is receiving nothing even when i send test emails to it. My newer account (never revealed to junk mail) is working so unsure what the issue is. as even if they had deleted all the mails my new test ones should come through ??? any ideas?? |

I've had enough of ntl too. I can't change our ISP altogether, but email server problems have been driving me mad for months. I've gone with GMail too, as of this afternoon. It's great!!! Can't recommend it highly enough!

Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
After a couple of days of intermittent email access failures (i.e. failing to log on successfully to the POP server), my incoming e-mail stopped being accessible some time on the morning of Feb 24 and as at 08:00 a.m. on Feb 25, is still flat on its back. I tried various means of accessing it (i.e., Eudora client, Nokia phone client and even an OE client), but all to no avail.
What I experience now is that I can access the POP server but after checking for new mail the email client then disconnects immediately just like it does when nothing new arrived. But I know there should be there mail for me, including test messages I sent myself from outside NTLWORLD. I guess I will have to try to be "patient". I have one question for the more experinced members looking @ this discussion board: where exactly does NTL post / publish on the Web the current status for this or any other problem? I have been <shall we say ....> somewhat irritated to read this headline message from NTL: "Service restored Latest information - You may have experienced intermittent problems with the following ntl internet services in the last 24 hours: email, ntlworld.com, Broadband Plus, Personal webspace, Account Management pages to change broadband speeds, registering for broadband for the first time, or re-registering a new computer for the broadband service. These are now resolved. Please bear with us whilst we get everyone back to full service.", which I found here: http://www.ntlworld.com/ , and still appears even though it is clear that "get[ting] everyone back to full service" is taking some time. Doubtless they have been communicating the status to their users by ... sending us e-mails ? |
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
I have had nothing but 1 spam email in the last 24 hours. Test emails via other ISPs don't appear on webmail. Never seen anything as bad as this before. The ntl status report doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Time for a change I think.
|
Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
Hi
Right I am gonna correct myself. I said on the last page mines back on and all spam has stopped........WELL ITS NOT! Whats happening is that 2 of my email addresses appear to be fine - but my main one - is SAYING its checking mail - BUT ITS ACTUALLY NOT! I havent recieved any spam because IHAVENT RECIEVED ANY MAIL FOR 3 DAYS from that address...............yet when u click on Outlook Express Send/Recieve it APPEARS to be checking it and doesnt report any errors.... This is ridiculous! Dave, Oldham. |

Please also note that due to these issues our technical support associates will be unable to assist you with mail delay. ntl would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused." Anyone with internet banking for example, could have lost statements. Ditto order confirmations and queries for online shopping. And NTl still regard email as a fringe benefit of broadband?!! Well the mail seems to be up & running, as I received 40 mails from the last three days overnight. Even received one from Thursday this morning, so I wonder if I have lost any important mail, or that the waifs & strays will keep appearing. I wonder if I have lost any, but I suppose only time will tell.
Hopefully we will not experience a bad outage like this in the future, as I have been with NTL for 6 years and cannot remember a problem like this. |

Well I've definately lost some mails. Some i sent myself from work havent arrived, but ones i sent later on yesterday have arrived ok. :(

Re: No Email, No NTLworld.com
All seems back to normal now, I would say I have lost no emails: the frustration at the time was dire but there seems to have been no lasting damage ... let's hope w do not meet such a sticky patch again. I have been with NTL for > 5 years now, and apart from horrors when the old net.ntl.com domain email server started to fall apart a year or so ago, prompting me to have my address moved to ntlworld, I'd say the recent failure has been a one-off.
