Re: Home Information Packs

Best to ask the person who'll be doing the selling for you, they'll have a reliable option..

You meantion deal and packS as in plural...are you looking for it done on more than on home??

Re: Home Information Packs

It doesn't seem that bad considering my friend just paid £400 for hers. Do they have to be affiliated to any governing organisation or can any Tom, Dick or Harry just set up in business?

Re: Home Information Packs

Alternatively - do it yourself

Where you can get a HIP

If you need to get a HIP, you can choose any of the following options:
  • get an estate agent to do it
  • use a solicitor or a licensed conveyancer
  • use a specialist HIP provider
  • compile it yourself

Re: Home Information Packs

The problem with a lot of the cheapo HIP suppliers is that they might not do all the searches/surveys correctly and you end up with certificates and HIP pack that isn't really right.

The option of doing it yourself might sometimes look good but by the time you;ve paid for one off surveys the cost does add up and is sometimes a lot more than what an agent might get as he can get trade discounts..

As said £250 looks an OK price, I have seen a lot more and a lot less, just don't though go on a price and expect quality for a more expensive price.

You could go look at a few houses, pretend to be a buyer, gets lots of free coffee and biscuits and just mention that you've gotta sell your own house and ask who did thier HIP (will probably be printed on the HIP somewhere anyway )

Re: Home Information Packs

At the end of the day - is ANY HIP worth the money?
It was I think poorly thought out and depressed the market even more.

Re: Home Information Packs

It's designed to protect the buyer, not the seller, as long as the HIP is done correctly then it'll do it's job.. also it's a one off survey instead of a survey done by each prospective buyer..

In the end the seller just factors in a few hundred into the price and everyones happy
