Smart WiFi is putting VMs crap in Modem Mode and using your own router.

That article in ISP Review is weak and they admit they don't know what they're talking about.
"Smart WiFi" by VM, in my opinion, can be put into the same category as "Super" in Superhub.
Read all about it at: https://routerguide.net/airtime-fairness-on-or-off/
VM won't be implementing anything beyond the confines of their Hub 3.

I think it's about allocating bandwidth more fairly. After all if the kids are rinsing the connection 24/7 with torrents, it's only fair the parents get a look in from time to time.
After all, being fair isn't necessarily being nice. A friend of mine always said "I am fair, I'm an equal ******* to everyone.". He was right. If you treated him fairly, he treated you fairly, but he wasn't frightened to say no, often quite bluntly, even to senior management.
That said, I'm using my own router, so it won't affect me..

Smart WiFi? This suggests an additional layer of user configuration, not dissimilar from the adaptive QoS you get on 'proper' routers.
I know ISPs prefer to keep it simple. for obvious reasons, but is this a possible step towards marketing a router that contains some favourite additional functions. Perhaps a VPN server capability would cheaply satisfy security recommendations for those of us who use our phones and mobile devices for banking etc in public places? VoIP? Isn't time to make use of those telephone sockets?

To be honest I got a pm from the virgin media trials team about this. Deal was to use their router not your own modem and run everything off wifi. Which I don't so didn't bother to get anymore information.

Same here. Trying to add new features on the Hub 3.0 is akin to putting lipstick on a pig*

Re: Virgin Media UK Trial Smart WiFi Upgrade for Broadband Routers
I'm defrocked for telling users what was in the 9.1.116V firmware release. So they didn't invite me to trial the wretched feature.
Anyway, when everyone's doing it, everyone will be channel hopping under the principles of Parkinson's Law.
