Ya you can, what i meant was that the smart ads are only shown when watching a live broadcast, thats how it was when testing anyway, but im not sure if this is still the case

It's very rare that I watch live TV anyway as the FF button is indeed my best friend.

That's correct now its live customers watching live TV wont notice any difference during the ads as they are seamlessly inserted , during the trial you had the timer on screen and generally the same few ads were repeated over and over and over and over again.
