have to agree with that plus although he does do some charity work with the amount they earn they have to give some away anyway
it's the equivalent of me giving 50p to charity from my earnings. Does that mean I should get a knighthood ?

So how do you know how much he gives to charity then? I bet it's a lot more than you think. It's not just about giving money to charaties, it's about raising awareness and getting more people involved with the charity etc, which he does a lot of. Also he has set up soccer schools all over the world which adds to the list of things he has done/achieved.

I think what he has done so far should be rewarded, like Sir Alex Ferguson, he won the the treble and got a knighthood, that didn't stop him going on to win more competitions. Many people who get knighthoods carry on to do more great things, i don't see the problem with giving it to him now, i think he deserves it.

Fergie will be in work until he dies and besides he isn't involved with any of the national teams, thats a big difference imo

and when you think what his hourly rate is at his club, the time he donates to charity really is worth something

Ranieri resigns from Parma post.......
If the speculation is to be believed, he well may be taking charge at Manchester City, I for one will be glad to see him back, he is a nice bloke.

Re: Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread
so we've had Ranieri and Houllier resign in the last week. What i don't like abouthtis is that just like Big Sam they just resign and then get another job a week later without their original club getting any compensation at all. Shows a lot of loyalty

Houllier did say that he was going to take a year off, time will tell if he has any integrity

Re: Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread
He could be the final piece of the jigsaw, a petulant brat for sure, with undoubted quality and ability, pretty cheap to I'd bet, considering today's vastly over inflated prices
Manchester United's summer shopping spree is set to continue with a move for Bolton's Nicolas Anelka. (Various)

More miss reporting from the Mirror
Manchester United's signing of Anderson is set to be probed by the Premier League. It fears the Brazilian's move could mirror Carlos Tevez's deal at West Ham that involved third-party ownership. (Mirror)
It isn't against the rules for a player to be owned by a third party, where do they get their information from Dave Whelan?

He's a good player for a team like Bolton or Man city but i don't think he has the quality to play for the premiership champions anymore, i don't think this deal will be happening and if it does i doubt he will be playing a big role in the first team.

And seeing that the deal hasn't actually been made yet i find it difficult to see how they can actually probe it and how the mirror know the exact details of the deal to write an article about it.

I think he is too good for teams like that, he's on a different level to them and the style of football doesn't suit him either, plus unlike most of your strikers, he is a goal scorer, not forgetting the desire that he will have to really achieve something, I would say the only 'top' club he has played for is Real Madrid and he didn't have the best of times there, he must know that this would be his last chance, if the deal did go through I think he could be sensational for you guys

well i hate to say it but he was at Arsenal too so he's played for two top clubs.
I'd rather than Huntelaar or Alves really i think there is too much baggage with Anelka that will always stop him reaching the highest level.. he's got a lot of natural talent but somehow off pitch things always get in the way of that.. he's just a journeyman now looking for as much wages a week as he can get.. he's go to United for that reason alone IMO

I don't think Arsenal are a top club, I believe they call them 'super' clubs, teams like Inter, AC, Barcelona, Real, Man Utd, Bayern Munich and perhaps even Liverpool, teams that have dominated the leagues for generations with massive world wide fan bases and traditions, not to mention fabulous resources, I would say teams like Arsenal fall into the second tier, a huge club but not quite super, imo
I believe Alves isn't an out and out striker, he maybe to similar to Scholes and Rooney to fit in and lacking the ability of some one like Tevez to adapt his game enough, as for Huntelaar, well Kuyt was a top player in the Dutch league, the Premier league is a big step up, there's a risk he might not be up to it

According to The Times Online there are still e few players in the reckoning.
Quote:
It emerged yesterday that Nicolas Anelka, of Bolton Wanderers, is among those whom United are monitoring, but it is a long list, headed by Eto’o and taking in names such as Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham Hotspur), Fernando Torres (Atlético Madrid), Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Carlos Tévez (West Ham United) and Michael Owen (Newcastle United). Ferguson would prefer to add a reliable goalscorer to ease the burden on Rooney and Ronaldo, given uncertainty over the fitness of Louis Saha, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Alan Smith.

Agree with you on Huntelaar mate, he needs to stay another 2 years in Holland to build himself up to bigger leagues. Holland is a good training ground (see Ronaldo, Romario, Alex, and you name them)
In my opinion Kuyt has left Feyenoord also a year too early as at liverpool he hasnt done that great but then saying that he isnt a real all out striker but more of a handy man ie bergkamp.

If the newspaper reports are true he might as well be, no money for new players, no money for new contracts, seems like they are setting Jose up to fail, especially as it's been accidentally leaked that a new manager would have substantial resources to play with, joke of a club imo
