Re: Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread
I suppose most people wouldn't - but I say good on him for chosing the love of his country over glory hunting.

Re: Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread
I have to admit, these signings look good on paper, lets hope they settle in quickly.
Also, it looks like the Glazers are keeping to their word about allowing money for transfers, albeit restricted probably.

The class of 92 have served the club very well, but all good things come to an end eventually, Neville's time is almost up and as one of the few remaining players of the class of 92 was the very reason he was made captain imo.
Richards is not a bad player btw.

And another signing - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/6707995.stm
Although this one was not as much of a suprise. Now i would like to see a striker brought in and possibly a right back, then we will have a great team for the future

You should go for Tevez, if we can't keep him, bet you could pay 5 million now and 25 million at the end of the season for him
On the plus side for us, great player

I must admit, Spurs are my local team and grew up with them with my family, but always had a soft spot for West Ham. Hopefully bring them up a bit.

Dispute over knighthood for Beckham
Quote:
Civil servants have been asked to consider whether he is suitable for the top honour, awarded by Queen Elizabeth II, but some have argued that he should not be made Sir David because he is moving to play in the United States
|
He is destined to get one methinks, as he is one of the Queens favourites.
Quote:
He was awarded the lower OBE (Order of the British Empire) award in 2003 and could see that upgraded to a knighthood within a few months, either in premier Tony Blair's resignation honours list or the queen's birthday honours list.
As well as his footballing success, his claims for the top award are bolstered by his charity work and role in helping to secure the 2012 Olympics for London.
His wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, who would become Lady Victoria if her husband was honoured, told the BBC last year: "It's just so camp, it's wonderful isn't it? Lady Victoria...that would be quite amazing."

Can't see how opting to play in the US is a problem. Loads of knighted people have earnt their money there, be it entertainment, sports, etc. Plus they gave Bill Gates an honourary one, and he's a Sherman.

Re: Close Season Gossip & Rumour Thread
I can't see the point in that.. since he won the treble in 99 he hasn't done much.. another league title with us and that's about it so with no extra acheivements on the field and not much off it why is this even being suggested ?

Actually he does loads of charity work all the time, which i think is the main reason why he would get it. That, along with winning every competition going in England, playing for two of the best teams in the world and being England captain. IMO he deserves it.

I don't, Knighthood is pretty much the highest honour he can receive without it getting complicated, what happens if he gets it when Blair goes and then leads us to European Championship success, how does the nation reward him them? Imo sportsmen shouldn't receive the top awards until after they have retired

Well he basically has by going to America
I think what he has done so far should be rewarded, like Sir Alex Ferguson, he won the the treble and got a knighthood, that didn't stop him going on to win more competitions. Many people who get knighthoods carry on to do more great things, i don't see the problem with giving it to him now, i think he deserves it.
