Re: Train Spotters Corner
So much for this being 2018 where sadly if you commute on certain northern rail routes one third of their trains will run without wheelchair access.
Quote:
Documents leaked to the Disability News Service show that wheelchairs will not be able to travel on 12 of the 34 hourly services to and from Liverpool and Scarborough via Manchester Victoria, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.

Quote:
The documents say there will be “no space on the train for wheelchairs” and that “the trains will run without wheelchair or cycle provision”.

More chaotic chaos on our chaotic railways..
Quote:
The under-fire rail operator Northern has been accused of breaking promises after it asked to extend the closure of a line in the Lake District following weeks of misery for commuters.

Cumbrian businesses have warned the closure of the line risks doing irreparable harm to the region’s tourism industry.

Train passengers set for 3.5% fare rise sadly.

Rain passengers are set to face a 3.5 per cent fare increase, as new research shows commuter satisfaction has plummeted in the last decade.

Quote from The Sun:
Ministers are “actively considering” axing the entire £56 billion high speed 2 rail network, it has emerged.
A senior Cabinet source told Channel 4’s Dispatches programme to be aired tonight that another option under review is only building HS2 to Birmingham amid fears the project’s budget is spiralling out of control.
Annual spending on HS2 over the next decade is on course to soar by a whopping 40 per cent to £6 billion, according to revelations by Channel 4 Dispatches.
This is equivalent to the amount Network Rail spends per year on maintaining and upgrading the entire rail network.
In public Theresa May remains committed to HS2 but the programme quoted a Cabinet minister saying she wanted to “scrap the whole thing” after entering No10 but “lacked the confidence” to follow through on it.
In a further blow for HS2 just one in five voters said they want the multi-billion pound project to be built.

Given the endemic problems on much of our national railways something had to give IMO as it was turning out to be a white elephant that was soaking up money hand over fist for not much gain at the end of the day..
