Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I always wanted to take my daughter to Disney and like my dad said about me many years ago, if ever I could afford it then I would. So when he passed, his legacy meant I could afford to take her and we're going next month. I arranged everything myself. The tickets, accommodation, flights, itinerary, her days off school - all sorted. And she was understandably very excited about it. Then about a month ago the somewhere subtle matter of my not having a passport cropped up, which could have dumped on everything as it would be my first adult one which can take longer. Cue scenes of my rushing about, panicking without letting too many people (especially my daughter!) knowing. Had the interview on friday and the guy there said everything was ok and was satisfied I was who I claimed to be but it wasn't his decision. I was quietly confident but the traditional Russ Curse dictates that last-minute hitches are mandatory. However I just had a knock on the door from a courier delivery guy and.....it arrived. Happy Russ!

Trying to get information from Eurostar's Indian "thank you please" callcentre was impossible. Basically I wanted to get on the train at Swansea and get off at Disney as simply and easily as possible however they gave me so many 'options' that it was impossible to work out which was going to work best for us and they could/would not give me a price until 84 days before departure date. I wanted all this booked back in february so that wasn't any help. So I looked online at some cheap flights and found a great deal which was only £25 per person more and about 3 hours' less travel so we went for that. Parking at Cardiff airport will be about £20 so it worked out better that way.

It all sounds great Russ. You and your daughter are going to have a fantastic time, one you will both have fond memories of for years to come.

We just came back from there about 3 weeks ago - the kids love it.... but be prepared to be ripped off.
Not sure where you are staying - but we stayed in one of the hotels in the village (Sequoia lodge) - my advice would be to not eat in the hotels - there were expensive and lousy food - and go to the places in the village that aren't Disney - Planet Hollywood for example - it's just as expensive, but the food quality is better.
If you haven't done it - you should try and book dinner with the Disney Characters - it's in 'Cafe Mickey' - again, it's expensive, and the food is awful - but my kids loved it.

Cheers for that - we've saved a packet by staying with friends who live about 10 minutes from the resort. They'll be doing 'proper' meals for us (breakfast, dinner etc) so I'll be looking for something for the day time.

I imagine you'll find time for some...
How's that new car going BTW? It's one of the new super efficient petrol engines isn't it? I'd be interested to know what you think of it as for low mileage drives like myself, modern diesels probably aren't the best option anymore.

No.
Long day, went for a meal which involved a bottle of Shiraz, which necessitated relocating to local hostelry for further strategic/tactical discussion requiring five pints of Smithwicks Ale and two large 12 year old Bushmills.
Time for bed, early start tomorrow/today...
