Dillian Whyte knocks out Derek Chisora

Out cold. For the first time in his career Chisora was absolutely out cold. Having only been put away or even on the floor by one other man, his manager David Haye.

The fight. A spectacle from the word go. An absolute showcase of British boxing that was then shat on by a trigger happy referee. Whyte had absolutely no complaints about Chisora's tactics but the referee was hell bent on making himself the centerpiece. Docking a point in the middle for an accidental low blow that must not have actually connected because Whyte never was never fazed nor did he complain. The second point deduction being from a comedic style elbow from Derek which again Whyte had no complaints about and was clear gamesmanship.

With the above in mind, Chisora fought an absolute career high fight, this man was a gatekeeper if not an absolute bum 10 years ago. The efforts of Haye haven't gone unnoticed with Chisora storming out of the blocks bobbing and weaving with body shots for days and constant pressure on Whyte. Shades of David Haye in Derek Chisora. Absolute madness right? Chisora kept that pace for 8 rounds and whilst people thought Whyte was hitting the cleaner shots it was Chisora that was far more aggressive and active. Chisora runs out of steam late on but he's absolutely capable of seeing this out if he just keeps boxing the way he is. The second point deduction came and in my opinion it broke him. His hands and head dropped and he resigned himself to defeat. Chisora starts plodding around just throwing nothing punches and that's that. Vicious hook from Whyte and he's out cold. Brutal, undeserved and devastating for a Chisora who has put so much into this revival.

Now for the sucker punch. With two points taken away. Derek Chisora was still leading the scorecards.

Carl Froch had Whyte massively ahead. Having watched live and naturally listened to his analysis I'm fairly sure he was scoring the deductions as 10-8 rounds to Whyte. However he was calling them a 10-8 round before they'd even seen out the round. Guy already gave Whyte the round before it was over and thus a 10-8. The actual judges had Chisora winning a few of those deduction rounds thus scoring a 9-9. Derek clearly had one of those rounds and had a fair argument for the other making them both 9-9 rounds. The type of scoring Froch dished out was the same type of scoring that saw Amir Khan robbed by Lamont Peterson many years ago when dealing with deductions.

Undercard was pretty naff. Another Referee got something horribly wrong in the Quinlann fight. Letting Joshua land a solid hook on a ref break that pretty much ended the fight there and then before allowing Joshua to finish with ease before stopping it. Showing that boxing agendas still exist for young pushed fighters in regards to making sure they absolutely win. If a journeyman had thrown that shot I'm absolutely certain we'd see a DQ.
