I can see why they are doing so bud Ironically the illegal streamers and downloaders won’t be affected

Because Netflix charge extra for HD and UHD if they're reducing the quality then they are not providing what you're paying for.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

I think you might want to read their T&C's again, HD & UHD are simply made available, not guaranteed, plus you are also paying for more devices on higher plans.

A reduction of 25% bandwidth would still be HD / UHD; just not quite as good as you may be used to.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Apparently the Kids iPlayer has just launched/started launching on Connected TVs. Wonder if VM are getting it soon, the press release mentions no specifics, just Connected TVs.

That's what they've just said on the Radio 4 news.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

OB has been lurking, but oddly he apparently has nothing to say about this unplanned experiment in increasing the uptake of streaming TV.

We now have hard evidence for what so many of us have been saying for years. Data infrastructure simply can’t cope with even a modest increase in use of streaming services. Providing all TV over IP would require a greater than exponential increase in capacity and we are many, many years away from achieving that.

You underestimate the progress that will be made by the next decade. Of course capacity is limited right now, but surely you are not suggesting that it will always be thus.

I trust that you now accept that there is enough electricity to cope with streaming these days!

But the Netflix and You Tube actions will have little effect in the UK, no one has yet mentioned the CDN's. The ISP's may as well stop them as those streamers are taking action to replace their whole existance.

I understand things can be different depending on country but again, one size fits all! Thanks EU.

You've also not elaborated on CDNs? If you explain it might inform future discussion. If you don't then it won't.
