Re: Help with new smartphone
WiFi is local to your router or the router where you are. Ie tesco has free WiFi in stores as do many shops and businesses. If you are not in an area with free WiFi then you would just be using the mobile data network.
For example I have 30GB of data a month from O2.

Re: Help with new smartphone
keep the data turned off unless you monitor how much you are using. Drag down from top of the screen and hit the 2 flags one up and one down.Only switch it on when you have no wifi and want to browse

Re: Help with new smartphone
Most mobile plans now come with plenty of data that you can leave your data switched on all the time.

Re: Help with new smartphone
Just see how much data Amazon Music can consume. You should turn down quality on mobile data unless you don't have a limit.
Other apps may have similar options and you maybe able to limit mobile data to a chosen selection of apps you want to work out and about - mapping for example.

Re: Help with new smartphone
Turn off roaming first.
You can set apps to only download over Wi-Fi, that will save data.
Unless you are streaming Music or video, you should be OK.
Also, you can set up "Safe Zones" for Wi-Fi at addresses you know, so it will turn on the phone's Wi-Fi.
Google maps allows you to download areas of country, again to save data.
I'm lucky as I have 100GB of 5G data and going to change to unlimited 5G data for the same cost.
