Re: Virgin Boosting Speeds
I used to run in modem mode with an ASUs router but when I upgraded to 1Gb I found the new hub did a pretty good job so I no longer need the router.

Re: Virgin Boosting Speeds
Tested using the Samknows realspeed, and got the full 1G, so as suspected its the router (and probably internal network) that slows it down.

Re: Virgin Boosting Speeds
Great news.
I’m looking to move house and found a great place but no Virgin.
Max speed is 11Mb - somewhat down on the 1Gb I’m used to, I’ve no idea if this is going to be fast enough for me to work from home!

+1, no house in the countryside for me for that reason (even if I could afford it).

Low down in the things to consider for me. The view, the neighbours, the space, the garden and quality of life come before BB speed. Life existed before the interweb.

The world has also changed a lot since the internet, some people make a living thanks to the internet, some banks don't have physical branches for example, some people only stream and don't watch live tv anymore.
If you have had good internet for the last two decades you'd soon be pretty fed up going back to 2meg ADSL2 i imagine.
Granted I'd consider everything you mentioned, however internet would certainly be a deal breaker.

Re: Virgin Boosting Speeds
But, with Starlink, you can get internet at a speed that is usable anywhere.

OpenReach are moving fast with making many areas not possible before to have fibre speeds. The days of sloooow internet are definitely numbered.

Re: Virgin Boosting Speeds
Still haven't received the upload speed increase (postcode WS15), anybody know any other areas affected and how much longer i might have to wait? All my friends in the area are still seeing 50Mbit/sec upload on the 1GBit package. Rebooted my modem a ton of times since the announcement of faster speeds and always check via the modems "Max Traffic Rate" in the config pages (albeit have also done speedtests just to double confirm).

WS10 and WS15 are unrelated areas on the VM network. WS10 was Telewest, but WS15 was NTL.
