New Sim iPhone 6S

Hi Everyone

We're moving from Virgin Mobile to Vodafone and the numbers are due to port tomorrow. Mrs G has an iPhone 6S which was bought sim free earlier in the year. However, when we put the Vodafone sim in we get an error about the sim not being valid and failing activation???

I've tried the Vodafone sim in another phone and it works fine.

I've found a couple of comments online mentioning that the iPhone 'locks' itself to the network of the first sim inserted - is this the case and if so how do I 'unlock' it?

Any suggestions welcome as not having a working phone is not an option (so I'm told) and my life will be made a nightmare until it's sorted (might even have to make my own tea)!!

Cheers

Hello

Where dod you get the phone from? If it was from the Carphone Warehouse then yes they do lock to the first sim and you have to pay to get it unlocked from Apple. If not then they are usually totally unlocked.

But knowing where you got it from is the first place to start.

Yes Carphone Warehouse. Can't say she's too impressed as she declined a contract phone because she changes network as and when better deals come along.

Cheers

Re: New Sim iPhone 6S

Your wife's iPhone is now locked to Virgin, and they charge £15.32 to unlock it. Carphone Warehouse have been selling iPhones like this for ages, the devil is in the detail i.e it is sim free (until the first sim is inserted then it locks to that network) this is not the same as factory unlocked.
Details about unlocking different networks are here:-

Apparently you have to call Virgin Mobile to request an unlock as they do not have an online service.(how quaint)
