I was so looking forward to this film and I was disappointed. It's not a bad film, in its own right but it could have been better. Characterisation was lacking. I don't want to give too much away but people die, and I didn't care about any of them but one.

I watched the Collector's Edition Extended Cut of Avatar on Blu-ray this afternoon (first time I've watched the film since the cinema, first time I've seen the long cut), and I hereby retract all my previous criticism of the film
Bloody awesome. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than when I saw it on the big screen (at which time although I loved the SFX I was very critical of the story and characters, possibly more due to hating the hype than the film itself).
9/10, and not just because of the SFX. Hell, I'd be tempted to maybe even give it 10/10, but that would put it level with The Usual Suspects and LA Confidential, two of my "reference 10s", and I didn't like it *that* much. Plus, no film that has a Leona Lewis song over the end credits can truly be worthy of a 10!
10/10 for the picture and again for the sound. This is easily *the* best looking and best sounding Blu-ray Disc I have ever watched. Really is *the* reference disc. Stunning.

John Carter of Mars.
While the premise of the film\story seemed good the execution of the live characters was pretty poor. CGI was pretty good, without which I would only give it a 2/10 so it gets a 5/10 for the CGI.
Not surprised it ranks up there as a cinematic flop.

Unfortunately, I bought the blu ray of the original, watched it once, still thought it was an hour and a half too long.
I also watched it the other day, and thought the same.
