Because they don’t live in China. And yes China wouldn’t be kind to them but thankfully we don’t live in China, we live in a country that (for now) respects the right to protest.

Really? Most of the MSM, including the BBC, ITV, and C4 seem to be calling them protests, and the people taking part, protestors.

Extinction Rebellion: more than 500 arrested in London protests
Protestors have glued themselves to buildings and underneath lorries, camping out overnight in defiance of orders from the police.
As of tonight, more than 500 Extinction Rebellion protesters have been arrested.

Stanley Johnson said the PM's remarks had been "made in humour".

Mothers and babies were the focus of Wednesday’s activities as the Extinction Rebellion protests continued in central London.

The Government today took the extraordinary step of calling in 500 officers from 43 other police forces in England and Wales as they try to round up the Extinction Rebellion mob bringing chaos to the centre of the capital.

Extinction Rebellion protest could force the Queen to abandon carriage trip to open Parliament, police have suggested.
Officers have told those leading the demonstration that state opening cannot take place if they are camped on the streets as Scotland Yard admitted that they have “contingency plans”.
As demonstrations shutting down the roads around Westminster continued into a third day an additional 500 officers were brought in from forces across England and Wales.
The Metropolitan Police said that it was victims of other crimes who were paying the price of their attention being diverted by climate change protests...
... However, it emerged that officers have been told protestors that their security operations should have already begun and the event cannot take place if demonstrators remain where they are.

Well spotted, Damien.
The point I am making is that Britain is already leading the way, so protesting here is pointless.

Maybe the change isn't fast enough and they are concerned that the world is already tipping into not having the time to prevent uncontrollable climate change? That the PTB are dragging their feet and delaying the changes that need underpinning? That the PTB are not really actively involved in really getting to grip with what needs doing? That short termism is really what is driving what decisions are being made?

Re: Bunch of idiots
I'm not quite sure how much the UK can do to 'save the planet' when we are but a small cog in a vast machine.
I remember Sting and other celebs campaigning about the demise of rain forests years ago, nothing changed.
Some nations/countries have some sort of 'carbon tax' system that apparently does something useful.
If sanctions are applied to countries that actively continue in 'bad practices', the sanctions often make things worse.
If I reduce 10% of my carbon quota (or whatever it is), someone somewhere in a 3rd world nation will probably increase theirs by 15% trying to catch up.

So what's your solution? Because we need one. Change has to start somewhere. I'm all for sanctions against countries who aren't dealing with the issue. Yes it would cause us economic damage, but not as much as climate change will. If the EU acts together that's a lot of clout (which is why being a member is so beneficial to us).

Got any examples where the 'EU clout' has made any difference with Countries that don't give a monkeys?

Actually, it starts with the biggest contributors to Climate Change, which is the energy sector, which represents over 70% of greenhouse gas emissions, but because people want change, this is reducing.
Whilst each individual can contribute, it won't make the difference that major companies can.

Re: Bunch of idiots
Apparently there's some sort of garlic extract that cuts cow methane emissions down to virtually nothing. Mind you the cure might be worse.
