Those who couldn't stream would still be able to watch in HD.

If your going to go to the efforts of making something available in UHD you at least want the majority of those with UHD TV's able to view it.

What kind of broadband Speeds are people going to need to view a live UHD sports feed ?

Going off BT's 4K offering one would suspect a 40mb plus connection.

This is the reason Sky uses satellite for its own UHD Sports as it makes UHD available to anyone with the correct equipment.

4K would be a waste of resources for the Winter Olympics because, obviously, most of the screen is filled with white

Really? You think they'd use a picture with a lot of motion and detail to showcase it.

I don't have a 4K TV anyway, currently waiting patiently for my 40" 4yo Samsung to give up the ghost, gonna be a while yet i guess

Re: UHD on Virgin Media

HDR is a colour/brightness thing - a step up for the original 4K only

Winter sports looks good in 4K alone - HDR is at yet another level

Agreed. UHD TVs are all internet connected, I believe, but the real problem is the internet speeds offered by broadband providers. Certainly, there are still many homes throughout the UK that do not have the speeds required for streaming without buffering.

Maybe with the advent of UHD through streaming services, pressure will be brought to bear on broadband companies to up their game.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media

It is STILL not confirmed whether the Winter Olympics will be available on the BBC through the i-Player. If it is (which is beginning to look unlikely at this late stage), I presume that VM viewers with the right equipment will be able to access it.

https://www.whathifi.com/news/2018-w...able-in-4k-hdr

The option to broadcast in 4K HDR has been picked up by NBC in the United States. The Games, which start on February 9th and end on the 25th, and will be broadcast in the UK by the BBC. Whether or not iPlayer will carry 4K images is yet to be confirmed.

Are there any plans for Netflix to support HDR on the V6?

Well, Netflix offers HDR and the V6 is capable of displaying HDR, so I would assume that the answer is yes. Hopefully, given that Netflix is a VM app, there will be no compatibility issues.
