The episode of the 1970s sitcom – in which John Cleese as Basil Fawlty goose-steps around a Torquay hotel while shouting the phrase – was recently removed from the BBC-controlled UKTV catch-up service.

One thinks these networks removing content in this manner need to be careful as people will just say screw it i'll buy boxsets and not bother with streaming/subscription services.

Especially since it was changed in 2013 with John Cleese’s agreement, and that version is what UKTV and Netflix will be showing in the future...

According to the Guardian,
Quote:
An episode of the classic 1970s sitcom Fawlty Towers is set to be reinstated on a BBC-owned streaming service after the service removed it because it contained “racial slurs”.

The famous “Don’t mention the war” episode will return to the platform “in the coming days”, according to a statement from UKTV.
Quote:
Announcing the show’s reinstatement, UKTV said: “We already offer guidance to viewers across some of our classic comedy titles, but we recognise that more contextual information can be required on our archive comedy, so we will be adding extra guidance and warnings to the front of programmes to highlight potentially offensive content and language. We will reinstate Fawlty Towers once that extra guidance has been added, which we expect will be in the coming days.

i dont think it is its a country of snowflakes its the people in power. i cant see a single person on social media wanting to it taken down. so why are those in power and control making these rash decisions and then keeping quiet as others call others "leftie luvvies" or "right wing hardliners" or "snowflakes" its all bizarre.

But on more relevant topics. why are some things on all4 web only. i tried to view darkside of the ring but you can only view it online which is a bit odd we havent got the same functionality as the web app

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Are you talking about in the V6?

All4 on Virgin Media is currently a mix of shows on Virgin Media servers which you can bookmark, and shows in the app which you can't until the app gets the V6 integration mentioned in the press release.

But bookmarks aren't downloads, and none of the smart TV apps from any streaming service allows for any form of offline viewing.

Those in power don’t want it removed but know they can deflect from genuine issues by making the news story about this.

I'm not sure why Netflix and UKTV were still offering the unedited version, though. Possibly more cock-up than conspiracy.

Ah that makes sense. Do we have a timescale on integration?

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

BT Sport is now available on Now TV devices.
On the stick the picture is comparable to the 50FPS 1080P pic they serve up on my Chromecast Ultra,
I do not know if the 4K box will serve up BT Sport Ultimate in 4K/HDR as the Ultra does.

There is 4K football tonight and HDR football for the first game on Saturday.

Would be interested to know the results of the format.

If you look carefully, you'll see that they actually updated the article to say that it now supports Full HD.

The new BT Sport app has a settings page to setup HDR too.

Press release about the launch of the BT Sport app on NOW TV devices:

Quote:
BT Sport is giving customers more ways to watch, by making its award-winning app available from today (16 June) on NOW TV devices.

NOW TV joins a wide range of large-screen devices and platforms on which sports fans can watch BT Sport, including Samsung smart TV, Sony PlayStation, Xbox and Apple TV, as well as mobiles, tablets, BT TV, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media.

Customers with a NOW TV Smart Box with 4K, who have the necessary subscription, will be able to access BT Sport Ultimate, the only channel providing regular live sport in stunning 4K with High Dynamic Range, which provides the highest quality pictures seen outside of cinemas.

Existing BT Sport customers with access to its app for large screen devices can access BT Sport on NOW TV devices at no extra cost, allowing them to watch live, catch-up and on-demand sport, and, have a second screen to watch two livestreams simultaneously*.

New customers can access the app in a range of ways including BT Sport Monthly Pass, which offers all sports fans a flexible way of watching top-flight sport for a simple monthly fee with no contract. Available for just £25 per month for instant access, BT Sport Monthly Pass lets anyone buy and watch BT Sport on a month-by-month basis. Over the month from BT Sport’s first live Premier League game on 20 June, the pass will offer live matches from the Premier League, every match from Germany’s Bundesliga, plus live UFC, Turkish Super Lig, WWE, AFL and more. To find out more customers simply go to bt.com/sport/monthly-pass, download the BT Sport App from their app store and log in.

Additionally, BT Sport is increasing the range of catch-up and on-demand content available via its app for large screen devices (NOW TV, Samsung smart TV, Sony PlayStation, Xbox and Apple TV). Customers can now access classic matches and events from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and more. Full event replays are also now available, enabling fans to re-watch Premier League games in full, soon after they are broadcast on BT Sport.

Andy Haworth, managing director, commercial, BT Sport, said: “Today’s news marks the latest in this season’s sport innovations from BT, following our launch this season of Europe’s only channel offering sports in stunning HDR picture quality. BT continues to create more ways for our customers to watch their favourite sport, and we’re connecting more viewers to our content as BT Sport continues to go from strength to strength.”

Today’s launch comes ahead of the Premier League returning to BT Sport this June. BT Sport will kick off with a doubleheader of Watford v Leicester City at 12.30pm this Saturday (June 20) and Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal, the first Premier League game to be shown at 3pm on a Saturday.

When the Premier League returns to BT Sport viewers will have the option to watch with or without a pre-recorded dynamic crowd noise feature, using the red button. BT Sport will also continue to make the majority of games available using the latest broadcast technology, offering the best pictures and sound available in 4k HDR with Dolby Atmos and in 360° on the BT Sport App.
