Talking Broadband down in Bournemouth?

No broadband access for the last 36 hours in Bournemouth, and have had major problems over last 7 days. Set top box has one flashing light and one light on all time, so connectivity issues there I think. Connector at back of PC has one red light permanently on. TV is fine.

Any ideas?

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

Hi Mattyneth and a great big warm to the site

There have been no recent reports or panned outages on NTL's site. Have you called technical support ?

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

thanks StuartBe

Yes, I called them but as I was at work couldn't really help except saying there were no problems. When calling (and when I ever call) the taped message always says problems in the BH (that's bournemouth!) area.
Have to go home at lunchtime (luckily live close enough) to sort it.

Hi Matty, your 1st port of call should be to ring ntl-have you done this yet (if so, what did they say/do?)

As Stu says- to the site.

[Edit]-There's nothing on the Server Status Page about it: http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

You may be affected by the Southampton problems that have been "ongoing" since May 8th

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

heya!

i live in poole (next to bournemouth for the non-locals on the board).. and have been affected by the connection problems in southampton lately.

it goes slow... it goes off... and then everything is fine again! i wonder why its taking so long to fix it? maybe a rat got into the server and chewed the wires, and then got electrocuted? and when the technicians arrived, they felt a bit peckish, so they ate the rat... and then they all got food poisoning and are still in hospital so haven't been able to fix anything!

lol this may sound silly, but not impossible!

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

Well just went home, and first thing I noticed was the blinking light had turned to a solid light. I switched off the set top box, and turned back on again. Rebooted PC, and I was back online without even calling NTL.

plonking (hi) does have a point - this has been going on for sometime now. Surely when a fault has been identified which ntl have (5 days ago) they should be able to restore the service rapidly (within 24 hours). Something clearly not right here

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

heya matty

i agree with you here! if we ever find out more about why its taking them so long to fix everything, the true story may end up sounding dumber than the one i made up, lol!

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

Why would a problem with Southampton's HFC affect Poole and Bournemouth, which is different (better) HFC put in by a company that wasn't Videotron?

Looks like a localised problem, now fixed. If the OP wants me to check the health of his box, fire me a PM with the IP, MAC or smart card number on it. Ta.

Re: Broadband down in Bournemouth?

Ongoing problems in Bournemouth since beginning of May. Just spoke to an engineer who said "they are working on it"

Have intermittent access and when I do pages take ages to load up and the connection drops every so often.

Any ideas?
We must be linked to the Southampton problems on the service status page. This is quite appaling service as I've barely had access for 3 and a half weeks.

Customer services not helpful at all as they said that my contract does not guarantee access and I can't have a refund
