Re: Season 2017/2018

I know it's cliche now to say things like this but had they done it, the fact still still remains that Arsenal did it in a far superior league at the time. Still at the top of the pile ahead of Juventus, Milan, Preston and Celtic.

Re: Season 2017/2018

They can't be serious. You just absolutely know this is going to go horribly wrong and Arsenal will finish with their lowest ever Premier League finish followed by ''Appointment was a mistake'' followed by we should've seen this coming after the tragic job Moyes did at United.

Is there just no ambition at Arsenal football club anymore?

Re: Season 2017/2018

Looks like Sporting in Portugal is in deep crap. About 50 "fans" invaded the training ground and attacked players and staff https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebo...-academia.html

It doesn't say it in the article but other places are saying at least one physio was stabbed too. Edit - article mentioning the stabbing http://ptjornal.com/fisioterapeutas-...queados-276432

I imagine there will be lots of transfer requests handed in there this summer or even termination of contracts.

You better add Man United's former great saviour to that as well as he has just received his marching orders too.

Re: Season 2017/2018

Down in Woking at my brothers ahead of tomorrow’s final, watching Notts County v Coventry play offs. A shocking decision by the linesman ( refs assistant) has just denied County a perfectly legitimate equaliser.

And just to compound the felony Coventry score a goal that should have been flagged offside.

Re: Season 2017/2018

I've no idea about the premiership as I don't watch those games, but the standard of refereeing down in Leagues 1 & 2 is awful.

It seems very rare that a game result isn't influenced by an absolutely shocking decision - often one that most of the crowd see but the officials don't.

Has the standard really dropped over the years, or are we more aware of the gameplay and have a clearer view from block G row 37?

Re: Season 2017/2018

Just landed back at my brothers in Woking. As I long suspected it would be, the FA Cup final was dire. United were really poor and Chelsea were even worse, Looking at the match stats you would think that United overran Chelsea but even with 18 attempts to 6 they were mainly half chances. Apart from the awful misskick by Rashford late in the first half and that dreadful header from Pogba near the end that is.
Jose should have hooked Sanchez at half time and left Lingard on. Sanchez was truly awful.

Still the weather forecast is good so I am going to enjoy a couple of days down here before returning north.

Its actually rotten from the top down. The Premier League has gradually gotten worse over the years. This year was shocking for refereeing decisions. The FA literally do nothing. In some scenarios they might as well be encouraging it by refusing to comment or take action on it.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...efereeing-has/

5 years ago we were being told to lay off referees and avoid over-criticising. That's happened. However it's now reached the point where we're just ignoring how bad its getting. At least then it was debated weekly/monthly. Now it's slipping towards becoming acceptable.

Re: Season 2017/2018

Well they introduced VAR and everyone hated it.

I am not sure what we can expect from referees when they have a singular moment's chance to get a decision right and their angle can be less than ideal no matter how hard they work on their positioning. Consistency getting penalty calls right when the box is stuff full of players, the incident happens on the wrong side of the player and happens in a second is asking too much.
