There was nothing natural about NTSC analogue tv used across North America, regardless of how it was delivered. It was the lowest resolution of the three competing colour systems in use around the world and its inconsistency was famous, hence the usual mis-rendering of the acronym as Never Twice the Same Color.
We tend to forget just how bad it was because most of the major shows made with one eye on the international market were shot on 35mm film and then transferred to videotape for playout. Often what we see these days (Friends being a good example) is re-scanned from the film and nothing like what it would have looked like on first broadcast.
The PAL system (UK and many other places) was capable of significantly better resolution than NTSC and SECAM (France, Eastern Europe) better still, though it wasn’t fully exploited in most places that used it.
