Netgear Next Router Difference Speeds

Hello everyone

Well basically I have a Netgear WNR834B router, I on 10 Mb along with must people, on evenings my speed drops to around 4Mb, now is this is common then fair enough.

I done a speed test and using wireless WPA-PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES) security and channel 11-13 all I can managed is 6.4Mb maybe 7.4Mb on my router this morning, however using a wired connection I am getting 9.8Mb via the modem (NTL250) & 9.8Mb via the wired router.

That says to me maybe there is something not quite set up correctly, I was getting 8-9.5Mb upto a a few weeks ago but I have not changed anything. It is definitely the wireless sigal even though my quality & strength are excellent.

Could it be the security level??

This router has excellent throughput. Try upgrading the firmware

At the same time upgrade the drivers of the wi-fi cards too -what card are you using?

I have a Netgear WGR614v6. Netgear are generally very good in terms of routing. I wouldn't imagine it to be your security level, and unless you have poor wireless strenth, then that shouldn't compromise your download and upload rates.

If you're getting 7.4mbit in the mornings, it at least demonstrates your router is not impeding your download/upload rate in the evenings when you're getting 4mbit/s.

You could upgrade to 10.1.1.163.

Also try to connect on "a" rather than "g" as "a" is less crowded and it does not get affected by mobile phones.

Yes, that's the latest. Are you using Intel software to control your wireless connections or Windows Xp? Windows XP (Zero something software is better)
